Mrs. Leila Ben Ali opened today the 3rd Congress of the Arab Women Organisation (AWO). The Congress which will continue until October 30 has drawn the attention of the Arab media as it represents a propitious opportunity to assess the achievements in favour of Arab women towards greater empowerment. The Arab press highlighted the various initiatives launched by Mrs. Leila Ben Ali as AWO's Chairwoman. The Lebanese newspaper Al Liwaî underscored the multiple initiatives which marked the Tunisian term, which contributed to promote the important gains and achievements in favour of Arab women. «Al Mustaqbal» reported that the creation of the Arab Women's Commission for International Humanitarian Law, which came into effect on February 1, 2010, concomitantly with the celebration of the Arab Women's Day, is one of the major outcomes of Mrs. Leila Ben Ali's clear-sighted vision. On its part, «Acharq» focused on Mrs. Leila Ben Ali's pioneering initiative aimed at elaborating a regional strategy for the protection of Arab women against violence and discrimination induced by wars and occupation. Bahrain's News Agency shed light on the institution of an Arab Day for the Elderly and the proposal related to the elaboration of a Humanitarian Digital Solidarity Pact. The «Arab Online» website points out that the Tunisian term at the head of AWO, in the person of Mrs. Leila Ben Ali, gave an impulse to women's rights as part of an Arab solidarity-based partnership towards strengthening women's rights both within the family and society as well as enhancing their presence in public life.
