Mr. Amr Moussa paid tribute to Tunisia for its exemplary experience in women's empowerment and promotion in the different human development fields, particularly through the reinforcement of the legislative and legal frameworks. Mr. Moussa pointed out that 30 years after the UN Convention on Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women, 10 years after the announcement of the Millennium Development Goals and 10 years after the First Arab Women Summit, in Cairo, Arab efforts to eradicate poverty, ignorance and disease are still underway. Mr. Moussa reasserted the Arab League's determination to define a set of projects for the next stage, particularly devising an Arab action plan for fight against women's illiteracy in Arab societies and an action plan aimed to promote maternal health and an economic strategy to enhance security and peace in the Arab world, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) and AWO.
